Autographs and premium 1/1s are where a Patrick Mahomes collection goes from great to legendary. Because his rookie signatures are scarce relative to demand — and heavily counterfeited — this is the category where buying certified and graded matters most. New to signed cards? Certified autograph vs. “signed card” — sort this out first

Search results for “Mahomes signed card” mix two entirely different products, and buying the wrong one is the most common expensive mistake in this category.

A certified autograph was signed under contract for the card manufacturer and inserted into packs. The provenance is guaranteed by the card company — the back of the card states it, and no separate authentication is required. This is what every set family below produces.

A signed card in the loose sense is usually an ordinary base card someone got signed in person, at an event, or through the mail. That signature may well be genuine, but nothing about the card proves it, so its resale value rests entirely on third-party authentication — PSA/DNA, JSA, or Beckett Authentication Services encapsulating it and vouching for the signature. An unauthenticated “signed” Mahomes card is worth what an unsigned copy is worth, and sometimes less, because the ink is now a liability.

Both markets are legitimate. They just price differently, and you should know which one you’re bidding in.

The families collectors chase

• On-card autographs generally over sticker autos, all else equal.
• 1/1 chase cards — printing plates, one-of-one parallels, and true one-of-ones for the deepest pockets.
• Not Topps. Worth stating plainly, because the licence moved to Topps in 2026 and the assumption trips people up: there is no certified Topps Mahomes autograph. 2025 Topps Chrome Football (the first licensed Topps NFL product since 2015) gives him base card #148 and inserts but no signature; the only Chiefs veteran auto in it is Xavier Worthy (BA-XW). Every genuine certified Mahomes autograph is a Panini card.
• The two all-Mahomes Panini releases. In the licence’s final season Panini built whole products around him: 2025 Panini Authentically Mahomes Football (hard-signed, everything /15 or scarcer, with 1/1 booklets) and 2025 Panini Mahomes Icon Collection Football, whose autographs come in Gold /15 only across three subsets — Crown of the Kingdom, Mahomes Magic and Rocket Launch, five cards each.

What actually moves the price of a Mahomes auto

Four attributes do most of the work, and they stack. Read any listing against them before you decide it’s cheap or expensive:

1. On-card or sticker. Signed directly on the card stock beats a signature on an applied label, consistently and by a wide margin.
2. Rookie year or veteran season. 2017 is his only rookie year, so rookie-year autos carry a premium the later seasons can’t replicate — see the year-by-year card guide for what each season actually produced.
3. Numbering and patch. A serial-numbered auto is scarcer than an unnumbered one, and an auto paired with a game-used patch (the RPA formula) sits above a plain auto in the same set.

Buy smart on autographs

1. Certified or graded only. A factory auto or a third-party-authenticated slab protects you from the many fakes.
2. On-card commands a premium. If two comparable autos are priced similarly, the on-card version is usually the better hold.
3. Condition still matters. Even on autos, centering and corners drive the grade — and the grade drives the price. Pre-screen a raw card with the centering tool.
